Building/Improving Multilingual Programs Outside of DL
Do you have multilingual programs other than Dual Language? We can support your efforts here as well. Here is a sample of what we can provide:
Workshops – All PD’s are adaptable for both district and school leaders as well as teachers
Understanding Multilingual Learners – Changing demographics means that teachers may be working with Emergent Bilinguals for the first time. Or perhaps there has always been a pobrecito syndrome at your school or district. This PD is designed to help teachers see multilingual learners through an asset-based lens and shift to having high expectations with scaffolds and supports for students.
How to Grade Students at Different Language Levels – Teachers often wonder how to grade students at different levels of language. This PD will help teachers classify students according to their language levels and grade them accordingly.
Levels of Language Acquisitions – What do different levels of language acquisition mean? What supports are needed at each level? This workshop is a deep dive into different language levels, what to expect to observe, and how to support.
Language Acquisition Supports – Have you received an influx of newcomers? Are you trying to figure out how to keep to the 90% target language recommended by ACTFL in your world language class? This is a hands-on approach to understanding how to support language acquisition for language beginners without relying on translation. Participants will experience being a newcomer themselves and have concrete strategies to use with their beginners.
Writing Language Objectives – How to ensure the incorporation of the three elements of language objectives by using language standards. Supports all teachers of multilingual learners.
Oracy for Multilingual Learners – In this workshop, we explore the importance of oracy for multilingual learners and how to incorporate oracy into multilingual instruction.
Sociocultural Competence vs. Biculturalism – Sociocultural competence is the most misunderstood pillar of multilingual education. We will explore what sociocultural competence is and what it is not, how it differs from biculturalism, and how to build it among our students and staff.
