Sociocultural Competence and Critical Competence

Is your district working on students’ sense of belonging?  Here is a sampling of what we can offer to help develop students’ sense of belonging at your school/district.  All programs can be adapted to the needs of your school/district.

Workshops –

Understanding Sense of Belonging – We provide a 4-part series of hands-on workshops where teachers delve into understanding individual identity, national identity, supporting immigrant and 2nd generation students in identity formation, and building students’ and educators’ skills to support students’ sense of belonging.

Sociocultural Competence vs. Biculturalism – Sociocultural competence is the most misunderstood pillar of multilingual education.  We will explore what sociocultural competence is and what it is not, how it differs from biculturalism, and how to build it among our students and staff.

Coaching/Consulting

Writing a Dual Language Policy – We have experience writing dual language policies.  With your team, we will go step by step to analyze and write a district policy for your dual language programs.

Sense of Belonging Assessment – Through observations and interviews, we will determine your school or district’s strengths and areas for growth for sense of belonging and provide a report/presentation with suggestions for improvement over the next 5 years.
