Sustaining and Improving Your Dual Language Program
Has your Dual Language program gone off course? Are you not getting the results you expected? We have the experience of improving and strengthening existing Dual Language programs. Here’s a sample of what we can provide:
Workshops – All PD’s are adaptable for both district and school leaders as well as for teachers
7 Sides of Dual Language Instruction™ – A package of workshops planned around the 7 Sides of Dual Language Instruction. We can choose PDs based on the needs of the school/school district.
Dual Language Reset – This is a Dual 101 Refresher course for participants of existing Dual Language programs. We go over the basics of Dual Language, language allocation, study what transfer looks like, look at the 3 goals and 3 non-negotiables of Dual Language Education, the 4 essentials of DL instruction, and more.
Language Acquisition Supports – A hands-on approach to understanding how to support language acquisition for language beginners. Participants will experience being language beginners themselves in this PD and leave with concrete strategies on how to support their language beginners. Good for working on separation of language.
Language Objectives – Understand and practice writing language objectives for Dual Language programs
Bridging PD I – A focus on understanding the elements of bridging.
Sociocultural Competence vs. Biculturalism – Sociocultural competence is the most misunderstood pillar of DL education. We will explore what sociocultural competence is and what it is not, how it differs from biculturalism, and how to build it among our students and staff.
Co Teaching PD – Do you work with a special ed teacher or an ESL teacher in your DL classroom? This PD will help strengthen co teaching relationships to maximize student learning.
MTSS for Dual Language – Intervention should consider both languages of instruction. How do you know if you need to intervene? Which language(s) do we intervene in? What skills do we focus on? This workshop will go over the biliteracy trajectory and how to make decisions that keep each child’s entire linguistic repertoire in mind, not just English.
Secondary Dual Language – What does secondary dual language look like? How do you build the structures for the secondary level?
Coaching/Consulting – Here is a sample of the coaching and consulting we offer. Anything can be adapted for the particular needs of your district/school.
Coaching for Leaders – Principals are the principal instructional leaders of Dual Language programs. Learn to use a walk through document created by us to ensure that your Dual Language program is instructionally sound.
2-Way Dual Language Lottery Assessment – We will assess your lottery system for structural integrity for DL programming and provide a report/presentation with suggestions for improvement.
Program Assessment – We will evaluate your program for structural and instructional best practices, provide a report/presentation, and help you craft a 5-year plan for both structural and instructional improvement.
Curriculum Development Using the 7 Sides of Dual Language™ Curriculum Map and Lesson Plan – We will help you write your curriculum using all of your state standards so that learning in both languages is maximized.
